Election Deniers, Putin Apologists, and Anti-Choice Crusaders: Tom Barrett Shows His True Colors

Barrett closes his campaign by touting support from an election denier (Harriet Hageman), a Putin apologist (Tulsi Gabbard), and his party’s leading anti-choice warrior (Mike Pence)

LANSING, Mich.— This week, Tom Barrett touted the endorsements of three different extreme, right wing figures, including election-denying congressional candidate Harriet Hageman, Putin stooge Tusli Gabbard, and anti-choice warrior Mike Pence. The endorsements come on the heels of Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) endorsement of Rep. Elissa Slotkin, the first time Cheney has ever supported a Democrat. Cheney endorsed Slotkin because of Barrett’s refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election.

Much like his website language on his anti-choice position, the moderate mask Barrett has tried to wear during this campaign is gone. The people Barrett is choosing to align himself with in the final days of the race says quite a lot about his character:

Tom Barrett and Mike Pence agree that:

Tom Barrett and Harriett Hageman agree that:

Barrett also said he was “proud” to have the support of Tulsi Gabbard, a former Congresswoman who says that Putin acted in self-defense when he invaded Ukraine, that the Biden administration and “war-mongers in Washington” wanted Putin to invade, and that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is an authoritarian. Barrett has called supporters of America’s efforts to defend its democratic allies “warmongers.”

“Tom Barrett is showing us who he’s been all along: someone who talks like a moderate but holds extreme, alarming views,” said Elissa Slotkin for Congress spokeswoman Lynsey Mukomel. “Whether it’s voting against abortion access, against public schools, against prescription drug reform, or against thousands of good-paying auto jobs, Barrett has and will always put his ideology before his duty to constituents. All campaign, we’ve seen him dodge tough questions from reporters, but now that we’ve reached the final days, his surrogates are providing the answers.”
