Slotkin Endorsed by Michigan Association of Police Organizations

Slotkin believes that “public safety shouldn’t be partisan”

LANSING, Mich.— U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin was endorsed by the Michigan Association of Police Organizations (MAPO), the largest independent organization representing Michigan law enforcement.

MAPO endorsed Slotkin over her challenger, Tom Barrett.

During her time in Congress, Slotkin has fought to improve public safety in mid-Michigan. She secured $1.3 million for the Lansing Police Department to fund three crisis assessment teams to address emergency needs. After hearing constantly about the problems hiring and retaining officers in small communities, Slotkin co-led the Invest to Protect Act that recently passed the House in September on a bipartisan basis. This bipartisan legislation would, among other things, direct monies to police departments with less than 125 officers so they can train, retain, and hire staff—benefitting many law enforcement organizations in mid-Michigan that are understaffed and overworked.

“I’m grateful for the backing of the Michigan Association of Police Organizations as I work to make sure officers have the resources they need to protect our communities,” said Slotkin. “As an elected leader, I have a fundamental responsibility to keep my constituents safe. That’s why I have a history of working across the aisle to support law enforcement—because public safety shouldn’t be partisan. I look forward to continuing my partnership with MAPO, with county sheriffs in my district, and with police organizations across mid-Michigan.”

MAPO’s endorsement follows other high-profile shows of support for Slotkin in the race for Michigan’s 7th congressional district, including the endorsement of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Michigan AFL-CIO.
