Slotkin Endorsed By Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce
Lansing Chamber points to Slotkin’s “bipartisan nature” as pivotal to its support
LANSING, Mich.— U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin today welcomed the endorsement of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Lansing Chamber, which applauded Slotkin’s “bipartisan nature” in announcing its endorsement, supports Slotkin’s efforts to bolster businesses in the 7th congressional district.
The Lansing Regional Chamber endorsed Slotkin over her challenger, congressional candidate Tom Barrett.
“I’m grateful for the support of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce and its endorsement of a bipartisan approach to the toughest challenges facing mid-Michigan small businesses,” said Slotkin. “During COVID, I worked hand in glove with the Chamber to keep mid-Michigan’s small businesses afloat and employees on payrolls. In Congress, we’ve passed laws like the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the CHIPS Act that bring investment, jobs, and opportunity back home to benefit Michigan workers and our small businesses. Our economic future is bright in Lansing, and I look forward to continuing my strong partnership with the Lansing Chamber and mid-Michigan’s small business community to keep Michigan competitive.”
“‘Mid-Michigan’s success requires leaders like Congresswoman Slotkin to show up to work and get things done,” said Steve Japinga, Senior Vice President for Public Affairs for the Lansing Regional Chamber. “Congresswoman Slotkin has won real victories for Lansing, and she’s done so with the bipartisan spirit that the Chamber champions. As a member of the Problem Solvers Caucus and as someone who’s consistently rated one of the most bipartisan members of Congress, she has shown time and time again a willingness to push her party and work with both sides of the aisle to improve her district, state, and country.”
During her time in Congress, Slotkin has fought to defend and expand Michigan’s middle class and believes the future of the manufacturing industry should be in Michigan, not out of state or overseas. She’s made securing American supply chains and rebuilding domestic manufacturing a top priority.
That’s why Slotkin co-chaired the Critical Defense Supply Chains Taskforce with Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and wrote legislation that supports businesses manufacturing those critical goods at home. It’s also why she pushed Democratic leadership to pass the CHIPS Act, a bill that invests more than fifty billion dollars in the domestic semiconductor industry. Slotkin supports the bipartisan deals that the Michigan legislature struck with auto companies like GM, bringing billions of dollars of investment and thousands of jobs to the state.
Slotkin knows that inflation—and, in particular, increases in the price of gas—can drive up costs for mid-Michigan businesses across the board. She’s tackled the problem head-on by sponsoring legislation that would suspend the federal gas tax and pushing the Biden administration to open up the Strategic National Reserve and negotiate harder with foreign oil producers like Saudi Arabia.
