Detroit Free Press: Joe Biden endorses Elissa Slotkin for Congress
Elissa Slotkin, a former Defense Department official and intelligence analyst from Holly, has gotten the endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden in her race to unseat U.S. Rep. Mike Bishop, R-Rochester.
Slotkin’s campaign said Wednesday it had secured the nod from Biden, a former U.S. senator from Delaware who was President Barack Obama’s vice president and has been rumored to be considering a run for the presidency in 2020.
In her role at the Defense Department, Slotkin, who also did three tours in Iraq as a CIA security analyst and held positions during the administration of President George W. Bush, often advised Biden on national security.
“Elissa Slotkin has served our country throughout her entire career, working in dangerous situations abroad and serving in top national security roles for both Democratic and Republican administrations,” Biden said. “Over the years, she advised my team as a Pentagon official on some of the most difficult national security matters.
“I am proud to support her. She is part of a new generation of service-centered leaders that this country needs now more than ever.”
Slotkin thanked Biden for the endorsement, saying he “represents service as its finest.”
“He is among a small handful of American statesmen who still put people above partisanship, champion the working people of the country and remind us the United States is only as strong as our middle class families.”
